- Route high frequency traces and place high frequency devices away from XTAL inputs to avoid stray coupling
- Keep ground connections for the load capacitors as short as possible
- Choose capacitors NPO or COG type because of their stability over temperature
- Place load capacitors as close as possible
- Place XTALIN capacitor first as close as possible to XTALIN pin and ground
- XTALIN and XTALOUT lines shall be routed as far as possible as this reduces stray capacitance to reduce parasitic capacitance
- Place ground area under crystal oscillator area. Connect the same ground land to the load oscillator too
